10 Steps to Planning a Wedding Ceremony In Atlantic City

Tips for Planning Your Memorable Atlantic City Wedding. Atlantic City is not quite like Las Vegas when it comes to weddings, the main difference is that the state of New Jersey requires you to obtain a marriage license prior to getting married in Atlantic City. Follow these 10 wedding tips and we guarantee that your wedding will be the memory you wish it to be!
1. Choose your wedding date.
2. Find someone to perform the ceremony who is available on the date you choose to marry. During the busy summer months, some couples have had a difficult time finding someone to perform the ceremony. While mayors do perform wedding ceremonies, because of the new civil union laws some mayors are no longer providing that service. For that reason, many bridal consultants are becoming ordained ministers in order to perform marriage ceremonies for their clients. Those who can perform a marriage ceremony include a member of the clergy or ordained minister, a mayor or municipal court judge.

Where to apply for a marriage license:If the bride and groom (or domestic partners*) live in New Jersey, you can apply for the license in the New Jersey municipality or town where either the bride or groom resides. It is valid for a marriage ceremony anywhere within the state of New Jersey for 30 days. (*Note domestic partners apply for a civil union license, not a marriage license)If both the bride and groom are from out-of-state, apply for the license in the town where you wish to be married.
6. When to apply for a license:Apply for your marriage license, in-person, within 30 days of your wedding date. After applying for your license, there is a 3-day waiting period (72 hrs) before you can be married. (Ex. If you want to get married in Atlantic City next weekend and both parties are from out-of-state, apply for the license the weekend before. The bride and groom must both be present to apply for a license along with a witness who is 18 or older. The License is only valid for 30 days.After the 72 hour waiting period you can either pick up your license in person OR if you wish to have the marriage license mailed to you, fill out that paperwork at the same time you apply for your license. Ceremony officiants are not allowed to pick up the license for you in many municipalities.

9. Marriage License Fees – The fee to apply for a marriage license is currently $28. (Marriage license fee subject to change without notice).
10. File the wedding license – After the ceremony, the minister or person who performed your ceremony, should file the marriage license with the registrar in the municipality where the ceremony was performed within 5 days of the wedding.

Beach Ceremonies: Every beach town has their own requirements. In Atlantic City, permits are currently not required to hold a ceremony on the beach. However, if you plan to bring any equipment on the beach with you (other than possibly an acoustic instrument) you will need to get permission from the city and insure the city for $1 million dollars. (i.e. if you wanted to bring chairs or tents down on the beach you would need special permission and insurance). Wedding Chapels: There are no Vegas-style wedding chapels in Atlantic City where you can drive in and be married the same day. While there has been much talk about a chapel in recent years, a drive-in chapel does not exist in Atlantic City. Nevertheless, Atlantic City is a fabulous place for a wedding, civil union or vow renewal!

Some of the casinos, such as Trump Marina, host wedding receptions in a private room of the casino. Trump Marina, for example, has a gorgeous ballroom perfect for an elegant wedding reception. Again, though, the casinos (at this time) do not have chapels/rooms for just 2 people to be married.
